Father Christmas is coming to Christchurch

Santa Claus is coming to town! Starting from the 3rd December, Father Christmas is sending his elves to Christchurch town centre, to help people with their Christmas shopping and encourage residents to head down to the High Street. Then the man himself will be joining the festive fun at the free Santa’s Grotto underneath the Mayor’s Parlour in Saxon Square from the 18th December.

After the difficulties local high streets faced last Christmas, BCP Council reached out and provided funding under the Festival Coast Live Initiative to Stir Events to arrange for Father Christmas and his elves to visit. The idea is to add a magical spark to everyday Christmas shopping, where people can pick up gifts for loved ones from local businesses and see the festive folk at the same time.

Charlotte Fantelli, owner of local business and photography sponsor for the event, Branded Studios, commented: “As a Saxon Square business owner, I think it's fantastic we’re getting a visit from the North Pole! It’s great for shoppers to get into the festive feeling, wonderful for children to experience the magic of Christmas, and a really great initiative to encourage business in the area.”

Santa’s elves will be in town causing merry mischief and helping shoppers on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 17th December between 11am and 3pm. At the same times on the 18th, 19th, 22nd and 23rd December, Santa will be at his Grotto in Saxon Square. The Grotto is free to enter, children just need to bring their Christmas list with them, so Father Christmas can make sure he knows exactly what gift they’re hoping for.

 End 2021.
